Gamla húsið, guesthouse on a horsefarm
"Gamla Husið" or "The old house" at Kirkjuferjuhjaleiga was built in 1932 as a then modern replacement to the old turf farm that stood in the field below "Gamla Husid".
Until 1980 Gamla Husið was the main residence for the farm family at Kirkjuferjuhjaleiga when another house was constructed that is now today the main farmhouse.
We moved to the farm in 1999 and since then we have slowly but surely been lovingly restoring this charming, little house. It is an ongoing project but we are pretty pleased with how it looks now with its newest additions, cladding, new windows and a patio.

Pictures/Video
The evening 10.10.21 we had a very active sky and a lot of Aurora/Northenlights. A friend of our´s made a short video.
The Farm
"Gamla húsið" is in the farm, Kirkjuferjuhjáleiga which is a horse farm located in the South of Iceland, only about 35 km from Icelands capital Reykjavík.
As well as training and breeding horses, we run the guesthouse facilitys and service connected to that.
The farm is by the great Ölfusá River which is one of the mainstreams for the salmon and trout to get to their breeding places in Hvítá-river and the Sogið-river, so fishing in the river can be very good.
Nature on the riverbanks is very beautiful and lots of birds make their nests in the area.
